Buying software is a technical problem disguised as a procurement problem. We help you write a request for proposal that vendors can price honestly, define how the offers will be scored, and read what comes back with an engineer's eye. More on this below.
Design for a new system, or a second opinion on one that already exists. We look at how the pieces fit together, where the coupling will hurt in two years, and which decisions are worth spending money on now. You get written recommendations you can hand to your team, not a slide deck.
Before you commit budget: is the estimate realistic, is the technology choice sound, can the codebase carry the roadmap? We assess systems and proposals for clients who need an outside view they can trust, including during acquisitions and vendor changes.
When a project is late, unstable or stuck, the cause is rarely the thing everyone is arguing about. We diagnose what actually went wrong, whether that is the architecture, accumulated technical debt or the way work flows through the team, then work with your people to get it back on solid ground.
We read existing codebases closely and report what we find: security holes, structural weaknesses, the parts that will break under load. From there we can plan and carry out a modernisation of a legacy Java system in steps small enough that the business keeps running.
Slow systems cost money and annoy the people who use them. We profile Java backends to find where the time actually goes, then fix it in the database queries, the algorithms, the memory behaviour or the concurrency model. The changes are ones your team can maintain afterwards.
Hands-on development when you need capacity or a specialist: Java and Spring Boot services, REST, SOAP and GraphQL interfaces, messaging, and integration with SAP, document management systems and third-party APIs.
Putting a language model into a business system is mostly an engineering problem: access to the right data, sensible boundaries, and something to measure. We work with Spring AI, build MCP servers that expose internal systems to AI agents, and set up retrieval over company documents with vector databases.
Most of what a software project ends up costing is settled in the requirements, not in the negotiation. Requirements that are vague produce offers you cannot compare, and the difference gets sorted out later through change requests. We help on either side of that document.
The same applies before and after a tender: make-or-buy assessments while the decision is still open, and a review of what was actually delivered at handover.
One thing worth knowing. auxilii sells no software licences and takes no commission from any vendor. If we recommend a supplier, or suggest you walk away from an offer, nothing on our side depends on which way it goes.
Every engagement starts with understanding the business and the domain. Only then do we open the code or draw an architecture. It is slower for the first few days and faster for everything after that.

auxilii e.U. is an independent software engineering company registered in Vienna, Austria. It was founded by Roman Kurmanowytsch after more than twenty-five years of building enterprise systems for banks, insurers, public bodies and industrial companies.
The work is done by people who write code, not by a sales team that hands the project on. Roman holds a PhD in computer science from TU Wien, spent a year as a visiting researcher at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Bristol, taught as a university assistant at TU Wien, and worked in research and development at Tribe.Land Co-Creation Services from 2004 to 2026. He contributes to Hiconic, the open source platform that grew out of the Tribefire product.

What holds across all of it: understand the business before touching the architecture, prototype early so people can react to something real, and leave behind systems the client's own team can maintain.
Where the name comes from. In the Roman army, the auxilia were the units that served alongside the legions: outside specialists, brought in for capabilities the legions did not have themselves. That is roughly the job description. The word behind it is auxilium, Latin for help or support, and auxilii is its genitive form, "of help".
